Bucket List #81 - Go Curling - Complete

I have been wanting to go curling for years now.  It has been on my personal bucket list, the roommate bucket list, and all sorts of to do lists every winter.  I finally had to just make it happen.  I called Amy to see if she and Dan would want to double date with James and I.  My whole family loved to watch curling during the last winter Olympics, especially Dan, so I knew they would be in.

The lesson was 2 hours long.  For the first 1.5 hrs or so, we were taught all the terms, rules, techniques, etc., and then we were finally allowed to play.  Our feet were frozen!  Standing on ice for 1.5 hrs with the thinnest little shoes on...not smart!  Lesson learned!  Bundle up next time!
Our instructor was a tad on the annoying side, but overall it was so fun!  It was great for me to try something new and go out of my comfort zone.  It's a little nerve wracking to curl a stone on ice in front of the whole class for the first time.

Amy was way nervous about it.  The instructor (pictured below) made about 100 comments about being careful and not falling on the ice and your brain spilling out all over the place.  That doesn't inspire much confidence, lady!
We a lengthy lesson on sweeping as well.  Who knew there was so much technique involved in sweeping a curling stone?!  I only fell sweeping once...no brains were spilled!

Notice how James had shoes on that had zero traction.  We were so ill-prepared!  Haha!

Best picture taken!  So hard core!

This was my second attempt...

This is what happens when you put all your weight on the stone and then release the stone.  Still no brains spilled!

We are curlers!  We may or may not already have our second lesson scheduled!  After two lessons you can go anytime and curl!  Look for us at the 2018 Winter Olympiad in Pyeongchang, South Korea!!  Go Team USA!
